I'm a newbie here and wow a treasure trove of real life information. Love it!
I just finished a small bronze and am looking for a wax or other finish over liver of sulphur that will keep the nice velvety matte look that liver has before waxing. It's a small piece with a lot of rough detail so I don't want the reflections to be distracting.
I have had some advice to do a cold wax and then just not polish it afterwards (or let it sit until the wax develops bloom). Anyone know of other solutions?
I did an experiment putting encaustic on heated bronze which had kind of a nice look (it was colored encaustic from a painting) but haven't tried the clear, and not sure if the bloom will really get it matte enough.
Anyone know of potential problems with encaustic? After all...it worked for the Greeks.
Any ideas appreciated.
