ok
that last was a tad off-the-wall
but
I was wondering what others think of Yoko's decaquadrennial striptease.
(pardon this comment in advance, it was a product of rural america before the tyranny of political correctness)
Yoko is what the oldfolks (when I was young) used to refer to as "One gutsy old broad"
.......I'm too poor and have time committed to go to the 15 sept London opening -----gee, i hope someone is gutsy enough to post pictures. And that Yoko wouldn't mind.
if science is a blind man insisting that visible light is a myth because he has found no empirical evidence of it's existence,
and myth is the anthropormorphization of the word after it's meaning has been lost which creates the god
and enlightenment is knowing visible light
and flashing stray colors in a nocturnal boreal sky show rainbows art
may it shine on the gathering
wish I were there
"The 71-year-old recreated the work in Paris last year in an effort to promote world peace, but left the stage in her underwear." (N.Y.A./B.B.C.)

World peace! I guess if we all undressed it might make a difference, for an hour or two anyway.

hi anne
Yoko did a thing in 1964 where she let folks in the audience cum up onna stage and snip off pieces of her clothing till she was without clothing
she's doin it again in london on the 15th---maybe
ergo decaquadrennial striptease
she has been nonconventional to anticonventional in her previous approach to art or as it has been called -----"no art"------not really my cup of tea, but interesting none-the-less---------so
I was wondering what others thought of the thing?
the tease part is here with the advance publicity------now for the show
and as Dell Shannon once sang----"I wonder....................
thoughts?

Just wondering....what's the "tease" part if she shows it all? Is it really worth the effort of watching?
(Spoken like a true stuckup, Puritanical New Englander) I have the catlaogue for the Annie Leibovitz show from years ago where the photo on the cover is of Yoko in black under the nude John Lennon and it's seductive and purely amorous nude rather than in-your-face-nude, which is what she seems to be aiming for now.

Thank you Rod.
Who really cares about nudity as an artshow? In Europe, there is no debate about a breast appearing on stage, dancers or theater actors could be completely nude on stage if this is consistent with the creative project no one react neither in the pers neither in the street debate. But is this an artshow?
As a woman I admire a 71-year-old woman could still be proud enough of her body to do so!

Jaz-----as/re tease
last year she left the stage in her underwear---
and
a headline or tv tid-bit for the following show is commonly known as a "teaser"
......naked or underwear?..........which do you expect?
----puritanical-----must be contageous-as the midwest has it too-----and I had thought it a germanic thing...............
but my ISIS (http://www.geocities.com/mandali/TAKEtheARTtothePEOPLE.html) onna truck seems well accepted-------so maybe the "puritanical" thing is more conception than perception?

It "happened" in London, so of course it's on the BBC news. A few articles, September 5th (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts/3629644.stm) and September 15th (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts/3109414.stm).
The show is one of a number of pro-peace demonstrations the Japanese artist has held.
Last year she rented a billboard in London's Piccadilly Circus, which read: "Imagine all the people living life in peace," a line from Lennon's famous song Imagine.
She also took out full-page advertisements in papers around the world on the eve of the war in Iraq earlier this year.
The adverts said: "Imagine Peace...Spring 2003."
I think her heart is in the right place.

I think it is an interesting concept/performance but cannot see a relationship to world peace... what am I missing?

Hi, I think it's just her way (conceptually) of calling attention to a subject that is dear to her heart. A naked person is obviously open and vulnerable and because it's YOKO ONO & she's stripping, (who want's to see a 71 yr. old woman nude? Answer an 85 yr. old man and I'm not sure about him). My apologies to all the old broads out there who've still got it and all the women in general for that sexist remark. Seriously though, look at all the attention it's gotten just on this site! Of course we'd ALL like to see "WHIRLED PEAS" but as long as there are "haves" and "have nots" that'll never happen. Then of course there's the power trip thing, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts, absolutely! So personally, as much as I'd like to see it happen, being a pragmatic sort of person, I don't think we'll see world peace anytime soon.
Have a nice day,
Jeff

I don't think it's sexist so much as it is "ageist"...the first response that popped into my head was "and who wants to see a 71 or 85 yr. old man naked?". Then again, there are very few persons that I want to see naked at all, so maybe I'm just a bit of a prude :D
I also don't really see the link to world peace...has anyone found a statement from her about that? Maybe it's just a gimick to promote the idea of peace (like McDonalds using covered, perky breasts in their commercials to promote their "healthy" line of food).

You're not alone here!
This is one of my big problems with quite a bit of stuff presenting itself as modern art. It is far too rooted in a careless sort of correlative thought. One that presents itself through pantomiming, sweeping generalizations, ripe with all of our favorite buzz-words, thereby rendering it, 'art.'
Come on...Everyone join me.
Take your hands and raise them above your head. Now move them outward, and say:

Ssssoy
Aaaactivist
Riiiights
If you manage to swing those arms around enough, people will forget that any pertinent imagery should be subject to analysis. Yes, glazed-over eyes and an errant bit of spittle will form, to boot ;)

-----almost hate to revisit this------------------
however;
did yoko stand naked at the opening, or was this just a hollow hype piece of crap media tease?
lets all hype another sculpture to stop world hunger and poverty-----or atleast, that of the artist
cool?
