Hey all,

I'd been looking for a good Radial Arm Saw for a while when I just noticed this evening that Amazon.com is running what appears to be the craziest sale I've ever seen. Check out the Delta 10" and 12" saws: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index%3Dhome-garden%26field-keywords%3DDelta%252520radial%252520arm%252520saw% 26store-name%3Dhi/102-9137114-0588940

I'm praying it isn't a mistake because I just ordered the 12" for myself (notice the additional $25 off promotional code as well). Early Xmas present. Just thought I'd pass on the info for any that are interested.

Sam

Okay, sorry all. The prices are back up to their originals. I hope someone else was able to get a great deal... and I hope mine actually comes in the mail!

Hey Sam
which 12" did you order?
(wow--amazon--books?--)

long ago, I had the delta 10" and was unimpressed---so I sold it and bought a stromab(Italian) 14" saw with a 1" shaft and 5hp motor--which I've had since. This saw compared favorable with the delta 16"(same crosscut and power) except, that the 16" could cut thicker material----over the years, I've spent more on blades(from very fine plywood blades to fast and rough crosscutters and the range in between--then dadoe and shapers) than on the original saw.

recomendation------wing tables-with long fence and fast clamps----hold-downs---all securely bolted together-----with an appropriate recess for the sacrificial top(under the blade)-----and----dust collector and air-hose drop at the saw

caveat-----once, while crosscutting, I wasn't paying close enough attention and allowed a small chunk to get between the 2x6 and the fence---then the agressive blade grabbed the 2x6, broke it, and threw the pieces at my head-----I found myself getting up from the shop floor with me face covered in blood-found my bent glasses, turned off the saw, and promptly passed out---came to and crawled to the house and took a good long nap---I was lucky and only have a small scar on the forehead at the hair line----and a healthy respect for the power of the machine

May the saw gods be kind to those who worship at their alters.....

I went with the 12" for the added capacity and a stronger design: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00002234Z/qid=1100878082/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl60/103-6892635-6054251?v=glance&s=home-garden&n=507846

Reading the reviews of the 10" left me unimpressed as well. But the 12" looks like it'll be more than enough for what I'd use it for - mainly making pedestals and the occasional cabinet/book shelf. And a used 10" Craftsman goes for the $250 I paid for the new Delta. Now I'll have to buy some blades. Who knew they were so expensive?!

Yeah, they can be wicked machines. But then, most of what I use can be a wicked machine. Respect is a very useful safety tool.

Wow, that was a great deal - looks like you saved $1,300 or so before the price went up. I've already got a radial arm saw or I would of ordered one at that original price.

Carbide tipped blades really are much better, but cost more of course. Sams Club has carried them before for a good price in the 12" size, but didn't have any the last time I was there.

Yeah, after free shipping, no tax and the promotional deal, I ended up paying $244... $1,356 off its current price. Thanks for the Sams Club tip. My parents have a membership so I'll check them out.

It looks like my luck may have run out. Amazon seems to have cancelled my order hoping I didn't notice. But I have all the copies of my receipts and order number and will pursue all the channels available. Sorry to lead you all on like this. :(

Sam......
Are you planning to ask your Attorney General Mike Hatch (http://www.ag.state.mn.us) to advise or intervene?
Do you have a fall-back compromise position planned?

It seemed too good to be true

Right now, I'm just exchanging emails with their customer service trying to get them to honor the contract they entered into with me. If this comes to naught, I intend to file a complaint with the BBB. Mike Hatch is an option though.
