marble suppliers [Archive] - Sculpture Community

Hi,
I'm looking for a new supplier of carrara marble in or around NYC. I've hade some "issues" with the Compleat Sculptor in the past.
Any ideas?

hello mtd. i'm afraid i don't know of any suppliers in or near nyc, but i was just at dodd marble near los angeles yesterday and he had quite a bit of carrara marble. if you can't find it anywhere else he can prbably help you. i believe his site is doddmarble.com but he doesn't update too often. you'd have to call. sorry couldn't be more helpful.

I am looking for a piece of marble about 6.5 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet. Does anyone know where I might be able to find this (I am in Arizona)?
Also, I am looking for photos of Michelangelo's Rondanini Pieta and Donatello's Abraham & Issaac. These photos are to be used in a publication. Can anyone help?

For a block of marble that large, be prepared to spend a few rubles. I am awaiting shipment on a 3 x 4 x 1.5 ft block of white marble from China, which cost a quarter of what the same sized block would cost from Carrera. I have heard rumors on this forum that the quarry in Marble, Colorado is up and running again, you might want to contact them. The white Yule marble from Colorado is absolutely beautiful, I have 3 sculptures carved from Yule that are now at about 120 grit, and the crystalline sparkles are gorgeous, photos soon. Yule marble was used for the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the sculptures of North and South America etc...

The Yule quarry has been bought out by Polycor (www.polycor.com)

They are also the owners of the Georgia Marble (of Tate GA) holdings.
