Beth Galston's new installation, Luminous Garden, will be on view at the Christoper C. Brodigan Gallery at the Groton School from March 28 through April 29, 2003. An Artist's Talk will be held on Monday, April 7, 2003 from 7:15 to 8:00 p.m. A reception in the gallery will follow.

Luminous Garden moves Beth's exploration of natural materials and resin into the world of enchantment and fairy tales. Her walk-through "garden" is a glowing environment created by colored LEDs embedded in translucent forms cast from seedpods. Attached to thin stalks, the pods float and sway in air currents created by viewers as they pass by. Masses of tangled electrical wires suggest plant root systems. The little lights could be thought of as a life force/energy system of the plants. Combining nature and technology, order and disorder, the artist creates new hybrid forms.Trained at MIT, Galston is known for her sculptural environments using light, space, and materials. Her installations explore the idea of transformation, creating an immersive world through which viewers journey. This piece is the premiere of an experimental body of work using colored LEDs and resin.
