Ten Artists Chosen for Second Annual Lincoln Park Sculpture Competition

Chicago, Illinois

Ten works by area sculptors have been selected for exhibition in various public locations throughout Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. The installation will take place in April and the works will remain on display for 12 months. Artists selected are awarded $1,000 and participate in neighborhood activities. Artists selected include Mike Brown, Joan Grippo, Barry Hehemann, Mike Helbing, Terrence Karpowicz, Pat McDonald and Nathan Overley.

“I truly enjoy being a part of this competition. It’s nice to see neighborhoods work with city government to support area artists,” said sculptor Terrence Karpowicz, a long-time advocate of Chicago’s public sculpture community and former producer of Pier Walk, the largest outdoor sculpture exhibition in the United States.

The Lincoln Park Community Art Initiative is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that sponsors a yearly sculpture competitive. Members of this year’s competition jury were Alderman Vi Daley (43rd) and representatives of the local business and residential community and the City of Chicago. Daley is Chicago’s first alderman to spearhead a ward-wide public art competition open to contemporary artists.
