Hi, again,

This may be a very basic question, but do I sign my sculptures? If so, where? Wherever it fits unobtrusively? Do you guys sign your pieces?

Candice - This is a matter of choice to a degree. Where, that is, and not if. You should choose your "signature" with thought - full name, initials, or whatever you prefer and think will be clear over time. Also the year, and if you plan multiples, the cast and size of intended issue, such as 1/10.

I generally sign, as you say, in an unobtrusive but easily located site. Often this is near the base, but with my torsos, I have signed at the top, on the truncated neck. I hate to sign on a natural part of the body, so on occasion I have added a prop, just to carry the signature. This was a small rock next to the body in the case of one casually seated female, and a small cloth in the hand of another.

I have been asked to sign items if I omited signing them so I'd say just sign them up front.

I have been looking for a metal 'tag' that I can have my name engraved/lazered/embossed/whatever that I can weld to my work, but can't seem to find anything desirable. I see things like dog tags. I wish I could find a nice mild steel tag about 2 or 3 inches wide by 2 inches tall.

I make a point of putting a legible signature on everything that leaves my studio. If the piece changes hands in the future it will help if the maker can be easily identified.
