More on thefts....

I wonder if we'll have to start displaying copies and hide the originals?

After reading the articles, it is pretty irresponsible of the writers to include potential profits to be made on scrap--
People now know exactly how much it's worth to them.

Where are the galleries/museums in these thefts??

From working at and visiting museums, it seems they are far more concerned with not disturbing spectators instead of the security of the art!

I've also yet to see any secuirty measures for outdoor works.

The museums I've visited have excellent and very visible security.

Todays NYTimes (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/26/arts/design/26bron.html?_r=1) tells the same story.

I find two things quite incredible:
The first is that anyone capable of putting together an 8 person crew is simply going to melt down the piece. Just as all the ancient burial sites were looted so or our modern treasures. There is a fence for these objects and an albiet sick collector to recieve them.

That these institutions have so grossly underestimated modern art is appalling. There is probably a "job" here for someone that might want to point out how to provide security and document the objects scattered around. Its simply irresponsible to not take care of masterpieces, shame on the owners!
