Can I propose that anyone interested in contributing to a new Sculptor of the Month thread sequence, now vote for the sculptors they would most like to discuss with other members of the community.
The idea: to establish a discussion, not unlike a Book of the Month discussion group, open to anyone to contribute to.
Format: each month a new sculptor is selected on the basis of popular votes from polling. Each month’s thread will have an introduction (Cantab will do the first one) and some links to relevant images and websites, (plus a few provocative thoughts to stir your artistic souls?!). It is hoped that discussion will range across matters of form, content and technique.
It is proposed that we define ‘sculptor’ loosely to allow a range of artists to be represented (for instance, whilst Damien Hirst or Tracy Emin may not be defined as sculptors, their work is three-dimensional, possesses form and meaning, and is of interest to sculptors). Sculptors from any era can be voted for, from, say, Michelangelo to Henry Moore and beyond. This thread will focus on sculptors of some historical note.
Voting: you are asked to offer 5 choices, numbered in order of preference, if possible. And feel free to vote for up to 10 sculptors if you wish.
