Hi all! This is my first post, although I have been scouring this site for help over the last few days, and I want to say thanks to all for sharing your knowledge and kindness!

I have been asked to create some pieces for a new mini golf course, to be paid on a per-piece basis, and I am needing to come up with a quote for the first one. As I'm new to this size piece and these materials --this will be my first foam sculpt-- and just new to this end of work in general, I'm not sure how much to price.

Here is the piece description:

Worm:
To be weaving in and out of "holes" in the ground (holes to be represented as mounded rings, as in holes dug in the ground by a worm), much like a sea monster in the water. The head and neck will come up out of one hole, then a loop of body between 2 more holes, then a final hole with the tail sticking up out of it. Each section to stand about 3 feet (1 meter) tall, and the body diameter will be about 6 inches or 15 cm. Each hole diameter would be about 16 inches. The head will be a sculpted to give lots of character in the face (not just a realistic worm), and the body will have some detail as well, e.g., raised spots and belly ribbing.

I will be producing first sketches and then a maquette before beginning the final sculpt.

Additionally, this piece will have to stand up to being a prop on the golf course that will be bumped and banged a bit, probably leaned on sometimes. To that end, I am thinking to use a wood or pipe armature beneath, then glue EPS foam (pink or blue from Home Depot) around to sculpt. Then I plan to hardcoat the sculpture, then paint and seal.

Any thoughts on pricing for this work? I tried to get the client to give me a ballpark budget, but no luck. I'm aware of the beginner's problem of underpricing one's work...So I'd love to hear some opinions from folks in the know.

Thanks so much for your help!
