Hi All,

I'm interested to know which country others are located in...curious to see what percentage of sculptors reside where.

My location is Canada.

But why, Kathleen? Our location, at least for most of us, are already indicated on the top right corner of each posting.

But as many of us were born and brought up elsewhere, this is something that may be of interest. In my case, it is Hong Kong which used to be British, but now an autonomous 'zone' of China.

Talking about zone, perhaps we can also mention our time-zone. I am 8 hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich mean time). So my night time is your day time, and vice versa.

I think it's a valid question-- It is certainly easier for those who are curious to refer to this thread rather than clicking on individual profiles.

Cyberspace.

Well okay, Seoul, South Korea
Via Hawaii
Via Europe
Via New Mexico USA
Via Latin America CA and SA
via Arizona

Hmmmm…maybe I’d just better go back to cyberspace since it seems to be the one common village that runs through my world......

So Cyberspace.

Mwuhahaha! It’s the New World Baby.

But why Merlion? Easier than clicking on each profile. I don't have that kind of time available these days.

Sometimes, it's a tad isolated....doing this sort of thing. Since being on the internet, with access to people 'round the world, it's made me think about how many sculptors are where, what their particular focus is......just because everyone has something interesting to say or share. No particular agenda, other than to me, it's interesting.

Thanks :) ,

Kathleen

hello I am a fellow Canadian. You probaby have more in common with Studioinde than me as I am from the far west calgary to be exact. I have lived here my whole life but have worked in Brazil and the US. How is sculpting in Ont. I have never been there but if it is anything like montreal it should be great.

Hi, I live in Silver City, New Mexico and yes, that is in the USA. You would be surprised how many people think we're in Mexico, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Silver City is 150 miles from El Paso, Texas, 200 miles from Tucson, Arizona and about 80 miles from the Mexican border. At 6000 feet elevation, we're spared those 100+ degree days of summer and we have very little winter.
We're a small town (11-12,000) with a good art scene. When I moved here 12 years ago we had 4 art galleries, we now have 20.
For a small town, we have a lot going on, a 5 day internationally known bicycle race, a 3 day blues festival, we had Odetta here this year. We have a 3 day art walk in October and a lot of smaller events throughout the year.
We also have the Gila wilderness area which is huge (it's on fire right now) and a big draw with the hiking/camping out crowd.
As a result of all this, people are moving here, houses are put on the market one day and sold by the next, rental apartments are hard to find and acreage is being carved up into subdivisions.
5 years ago you didn't even see a cell phone here, and if you did, you knew it was an "out of towner". Now, everybody has one.
We've got a diverse population, cowboys, hispanics, artists, gays & lesbians, old hippies, new hippies and of course your normal middle class people and the homeless.
This town is definitely on the move and someday it might even make it into the 21st century.
I'm originally from NYC, born and raised in Brooklyn and Queens, lived all over that area.
Have a nice day,
Jeff

I will defer on calling myself a sculptor, but I live in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin (South Western WI). Beautiful country with rolling hills, green valleys, great beer and hard working people.

That's me walking through the tall oak savanna grasses waiting for the sunrise.

Though I currently live in New Jersey, the better part of my life has been spent in the South. Grew up outside of Nashville, moved to a few other southern states in the intervening years (Miss, La) and the four years before moving here lived in Fla.

Given my choice, I am thinking I will stay somewhere in this area. The closeness to NY, number of fine art opportunities, and general level of cultural acceptance seems to make it a good place to be. (Compared to the South) On a less pragmatic note....it is very beautiful around here once you get away from the urban sprawl and that always counts for a lot with me.

Where am I? It is a good question. I am mostly in this little world I've built up around me in the studio in Singapore, occasionally (remember the spelling, two c and one s) striking out, say now, into cyber space when I need a rest.

Somehow the name Ibiza intriques me, Anne, and I look it up. Wow, it is a small island in the Mediterranean, off the Spanish coast. Really idyllic. I envy you. Would you welcome visitors ? :)

And Pogie111, which part of the Philippines are you from?

As this is off topic Toyholic, I'll only comment very briefly. You are welcome to come to Singapore. We welcomes millions of visitors a year. Here is a good website (http://www.sg/) about all aspects of it. I think we have two toy museums, one link is here (http://www.rsi.sg/english/theasianjournal/view/20060327164417/1/.html). And just in case you can can come over this month, there are two sculpture shows I am taking part in, see this thread. (http://www.sculpture.net/community/showthread.php?t=3118)

Hi Kathleen, I think that is a good question although it seems that this site stays fairly on the topic of art. I like to know the artist not just the art. Anyway, I live in Southwest Georgia, USA. My mothers people are from Soma Italy, I am second generation and have never been there. Grew up in Brandon Florida in the 50's. Never been out of the US. Also lived in Texas. Thanks for the question. Scout

Thanks for everyone posting all their comments. Some of the comments are really interesting. I've gotten to the point that close to me, is on this continent. Must be the time spent on the internet...makes everyone seem so much closer and the world seem smaller in a neat way.

What's sculpting like in Ontario? I suppose for myself, it's much like anywhere else I've lived. I'm actually a Maritimer from New Brunswick, so that's still home in a sense. I'm in Toronto now for the last 15 yrs, there's always lots going on, it's a matter of finding the time. Had seriously thought of moving to New York at one point (mother is American). Now though, I'm settled with staying here, and ending up living in BC somewhere in the near future.

Reading all the posts makes me want to travel a lot more ;) :D ,

Kathleen

Hay,
The world is getting smaller and smaller!!! I live 30mins away from Brisbane in Queensland.
We are currently in a drought and have been for years and years. New water restrictions have been put in place and we are no longer able to wash our cars, top up pools or water our gardens etc. Oh.. But we can water the garden with a bucket :) .
Have lived - Blue Mountains and Sydney NSW, Sunshine Coast Queensland, Cornwall England and Devon England. I think that is it
I think there is 2 other Queenslanders on this forum.
Cheers,
Nina

I think it is also the hightest altitude capital city. So does it means all of you have big lungs? :)

By the way, I am from Singapore, a tiny city state nearly on the equator. We lie on an island just off the Southern most tip of continental Asia. I can reach most people in Singapore by a 30 min drive.

But we are very much a part of the world. We have just hosted the very large annual joint meeting of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and the World Bank.

You will not make friends here because of the commercial spam you include with all of your messages. I have asked the webmaster to deny you access to this website. Including spam in your posts is rude and annoying.

Hi Kathleen,

It is a smaller world because of the internet. I have sculptor friends all over the world now. One called me from Wales and was so fun to hear his very strong Welsh accent. It's great to be a part of the international sculptor community. :)

I live in Northern California in a small rural area. I grew up here and went to school here and now I have my roots put down here (my house is my root that I put down :-).

My mom's father came from the Ukraine on a boat.(Indian on my mom's mother's side). My father's parents are both full French and came over from France on a boat. Guess most people came over on a boat before planes were in the mainstream.

Nice to know where people are located from and also their heritage.

Hi Nina,
Yes,we do rib each other a fair bit, especially where the rugby's concerned!
Do you know that alot of people actually think nz is part of Aussie! Woeful!.
I do however love Australia, more so for the climate and hubby and i plan to move there one day, brisbane to be exact.Saw your latest sculpture on another thread, loved the curves and the whole flow of the piece.Go with your heart, not your head i say.you are creating it for you,if it sells then its a bonus.I quite often start off with a plan in mind but when i start sculpting ,the piece takes on a life of its own and looks completely different from initial drawings!

Hey, Daytripper! I'm from Washington too, born and bred. Gig Harbor is a pretty town. Do you live overlooking the water? I live east of Duvall where we have lots of wildlife like cougar, bear, deer, bigfoot, etc.
