Thanks all.
This show has turned out to be an excellent experience. Perth (a 5 hr flight) was fantastic. One long dinner party. The work had arrived unmarked, setup was easy, and the opening night a blast.
Quite strange not having a bunch of drunk friends in the crowd ;) I highly recommend it.

The gallery space was much bigger than I realised, and I'm lucky I had the 16 pieces in the end.

Picture doesn't do the space justice, as you cannot see the front room, or wall pieces.
Perth is a beautiful city. I'd move there. Climate was gorgeous, and a slower pace than Sydney. However, I'm glad to be back at work, and moving to a new studio.

Not to be the materialistic bastard in this thread... but did you sell anything?
I had a gallery for a time, and on 2 occaisions I had solo shows of my own work.
There was a good turn-out, everyone had a great time, the wine and cheese flowed freely...
And in the end, I hadn't sold a thing... and I was out a couple of hundred dollars in wine, food and advertising.
I hope your exhibition fared better than mine.

When I stepped off the plane, all boozy and full of fine food from the week away, I felt some pride and excitement. But strangely over the weeks I've begun to feel a sort of guilt. Every other artist I bump into has just had a show that sold very little. Word has gotten around and now I'm being greeted with "I heard that your a succes" or "How did it go?". To which I now answer "It was good" - only.
Jealousy and all the other conflicts in the artworld have in a small measure been visited on me.
In my defence I would say, full credit to the gallery who did an amazing pre-show job, and credit to the early sending of the work, a good press release and excellent images, including a small catalogue which I printed myself, a slick invitation and several ads, one in a first issue magazine (another risk).
... and some credit for sending the work at my own expense 4000km to a gallery I had never seen, to a large but remote city often unfairly overlooked.
I bet you didn't expect to read all that in answer! :D

While I am not above such petty emotions as jealousy, and I have in the past been disgruntled at the success of artists I deemed unworthy, I gotta tell you...
You deserve it.
Your work is truly outstanding and I am very pleased at your success.
My sincerest congratulations!!
