... here's mine, it's one of those happy accidents... nothing planned, I was working on another piece... just playing around with the left over pulp I prepared... do I hear a gasp?... yes, papier mache... so, what's yours?... something that you did that you wouldn't part... well, maybe at gunpoint... tell us about it...

Hi Eric (Darkcloud), That's sad. Don't know what the problem is and it's none of my business, but just know that things change and do get better.
If you're not in a position to do sculpture right now, just try doing some drawings and do at least one every day. It's a good way to keep the creativity going and it takes up a lot less space than 50 lbs. of clay or a 400 lb. block of marble and you can do it anywhere you are.
Have a great day,
Jeff

My most personal piece is called BETWEEN HEAVEN & EARTH. Before my daughter Gabrielle was concieved, her mother and I concieved two other children. Both miscarried. This composition shows Gabrielle on my shoulder as we walk through the forest. The angels are the two who came before. They did not manifest entirely on this earthly plane, instead choosing to be angels, spiritual guides, helpers, and protectors for Gabrielle. I loved carrying her this way, for when all was quiet I could hear the beating of her heart.

Hi Graham, thank you for sharing... got 2 daughters myself, Maxine is 13 years old and Zoey is 9 months old... my wife also had a miscarriage... I know how you feel...
... Jeff you're right, haven't been doing drawings lately... too busy with my day job (screen printing)... I just squeeze in sketching & modelling during lean seasons... meaning no printing job... or in between projects... most of the time I'm doing layouts on Corel... thanks guys...

I like these pieces. Very intriguing. Whar are they made of? And how did you achieve the yellow patina on the seated male figure?

Hi Lou, Thank you. They are cast in hydrocal. The color is achieved through many layers of oil paint.

My favorite piece is the hanging mobile pictured below that I conjured up while listening to the CD "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" by Wilco. In fact, I named this mobile "Wilco" for that reason. I was half asleep when I was listening to the CD and images were swirling in my head. When it was over I grabbed a sheet of paper and tried to capture the feeling that I had, I don't know how to describe it, but I sketched it out fast - without any hesitation or changes. When I built the mobile it came out looking exactly like the sketch. My best designs come that way, similar to how songwriters describe how hit songs "write themselves". It has always been satisfying to me that this is also one of my most popular designs, judging by the number of hits its web page gets and the number of people that have commissioned it from me.
Hope you like it too!

I dont know if I have a favorite but I do have one i wont part with .Its a dragon, sandstone, dimensions areabout 3ft x2ft x 1 ft give or take. I wont part with it because its sort of my first and I named it after my dog who isnt with me any more ( long sad story ) I kind of wish i had done it in a more lasting material but as a first I did what i could.

This is my favorite. Why? It was my 2nd Honeycomb Calcite piece. My 1st triple cut out, and it didn't break during carving. It's also my wifes favorite.

Hiya,
Here are my favorite pieces. Why? Because they are the first pieces that I have finished since having my 2 babies 4 yrs ago. They will always represent to me an important mile stone. They may not be ground breakingly amazing but I am pleased with them. Good start and all that. Iris (blue one) was accepted into a local gallery exhibition.
Cheers,
Nina

This is probably my favourite piece, but not because it's any good. I liked the lines and the form, but felt in the end that it lacked ‘expression’. But it was one of the first pieces that I was pleased with. Called ‘Tranquillo’.
By the way, LOVE Unigami's mobile!

... Tranquillo's lack of expression is one of its appeal, great piece... Nina I love Iris!... what is it made of?... Mark, wish I could carve... what's the dimension of your Calcite piece?... Tobias, how about telling us the long sad story?... very intriguing piece... Eric

Thankyou Eric. Iris was a huge learning experience for me. She is made out of terracotta. My brother is a spray painter and he allowed me to visit him at work and be his apprentice for the day. I can't remember the fancy name of the colour but it was off a Lotus colour chart. The base is sandstone. A local stone sculptress (absolute angel) allowed me to come and use her air tools and prevented me from loosing limbs. Absolute adrenaline rush. I think I'm addicted to it now!! Power tools RULE :D
Cheers,
Nina

I'm with Ironman. The pull of the next piece is the thing that is the most rewarding. Materials acquired, idea in place, time properly pilfered, body fueled and up to task, outcome quite uncertain...that piece is always the best one; and it keeps you coming back for more.

Something I have been puttering for quite some to get the patina that fits. 3/8 steel with chemical coating and ferric oxide......I like the way the light changes the surface as the day goes by, it could use a better picture, but I just went out and banged it to put here.....Paul

This piece is 30" X 3/8" and weighs about 50lbs with welded base, it is more green than looks here, I just got a new Flatscreen for my Birthday, the old monitor was probably easterbunny pink, no matter what I did with it. I will try and send some more of my colorations. Thanks for the comment,Paul
