It is only on reflection that I understand I’d jumped off the deep end by starting with angels. I had come to the end if a 15 yearlong restoration of an 18th cent. house in 1994, and lacked only the finial to the newel post. The house is situated near the Abby of Floreffe in Belgium. Built in the 19th cent it had been redone in the Classical style in the late 17th cent. The choir stalls, all by one man, have eight angelo (Is angelli the plural, George?). I could easily bike over there to study how the 17th cent. sculptor solved his problems. So, yes, Overwhelmed, find the material, subject, and role model. The learning curve is very steep but you’ll not regret it.

Now that I teach at The Art League of Houston I start my students with pears. The form is pleasing and will teach the parameters of the material. Once finished the student is invited to take a “bite”. That will teach you how to work against the grain without being contrary to the grain.

All these reflections come from following various threads after the failure of the system over that weekend. George, is there a word for electronic rebirth? Revirtualization, maybe?
