Hi all,
Can anyone recommend an excellent rapid prototyping seminar/workshop for artists? Is it possible to learn the basics in a short workshop? thanks for any advice. Keiko

none that I know of.
Lots of info on the web, though, and I'm sure some universities teach it, though more likely in industrial design or engineering, and may be architecture or jewelry departments.
Service Bureaus and equipment dealers will offer training, but its not cheap. And they are usually pretty helpful with info.
I've had to teach myself what I know, and thats a slow process, but you can learn quite a bit here and there if you keep at it.
What info are you looking for, exactly?
What application are you considering? What do you want to do?

I think most of these are for engineers as this technique is often used in design for product manufacturing in industry. On these you can search for them say using Google keying in suitable keywords. See here (http://www.google.com.sg/search?hl=en&q=rapid+prototyping+workshop+2007&meta=). Perhaps you can check the details if any one is also suitable for your particular interest and background.

We handle a lot of rapid prototyping projects for sculptures, museums, galleries, foundries and other art-related projects. Feel free to call our office and ask for Harry - he'll be glad to talk to you about such projects or just the technology in general. He can also guide you in terms of RP materials, processes, pricing, sizing, obtaining the digital file, etc.
We have much art-related RP project information on our website as well that may help you further.

Around the annual Conference there are usually a couple of tech workshops.
Please email the conference organizers.
