Just wanted to drop a note and say, hi!

I was referred here by a link over at WetCanvas (http://www.wetcanvas.com/) and thought I'd stop by and check out the forums here.

Here's a sample of some of the stuff I do:

Welcome Patrick

Nice work. Is it clay? How big is it? Have you been doing this for a while?

Thanks Aurora!

It's actually Super Sculpey mixed with black and white Sculpey III over a wire armature. I used Magic Sculpt, a two part epoxy clay, for the hands, boots and spear head. It's very durable and makes delicate parts hold up well.

Here's a shot in-progress.

The figure is 8" tall. The overall sculpture is is around 12" with the base. It is currently being molded for cold-cast marble.

I've never tried sculpy but it appears to hold more detail than I thought the material would. Can you work large with the stuff?

You're only limited by what will fit in your oven.

To harden, it needs to cook at 275* F for about twenty minutes.

The working consistency is like medium grade plastilene and it's very pliable, sticks well to itself and blends smoothly. You can even add soft Sculpey to pre-baked pieces by adding a thin coat of Vaseline to the baked part.

I normally mix a 2 oz. package of black and a package of white Sculpey III to a 1 lb. box of regular (pink) Super Sculpey to give it a nice opaque gray color so the details show up.

Check out Midwest Clay (http://www.supersculpey.com/) for all kinds of sculpey stuff.
