thank you ,aurora for the words of encouragement.
Actually, there is a very clear distinction between African touristic art, often called (airport art)and African contemporary art.You may be right from one perspective, but the earlier one understands these differences, the more one learns to appreciate the creative abilities and dynamism of black African art and aesthetics
Some how ,Anne may understand easily ,having had ,according to her an experience with African artist and enviroment.
working with iron wood, could be very very interesting as well as challenging, to effect a great progress, one needs a lot of courage, patience and techniques to be able to manipulate through the fibres.
Dear Aurora,l would encourage you to try again and again, but most essentially, make sure your chisels, especially the gourges are very sharp.my first experience was indeed frustrating.Remember that pratice leads to perfection.
in my wood works l use mainly manual tools, chisels, rasp files ,often l use power tools for giant wood projects. While in stone works l use power tools.
visit my yahoo briefcase , to view some photos of my recent exhibition of wood sculptures and relief works in fiber glass.
