Hello....

I was wondering two things.

1. Should the sculpture roundtable discussion page have a primary topic for computing or something like that...

2. Who's got a BLOG out there? Blogs are web logs where an individual or groups of people can comment on various events and aspects of events. For example there's a blog called http://www.vagabonding.com/ this kid is going around the world and posting his video/photo/text diary to the web as he goes in the form of a blog. Blogs have special qualities because they can be syndicated to each other... We could make a ring of blogs in regards sculpture, aesthetics, manufacture, etc,.

I've been experimenting with my blog since february. Check it out.... if you got a blog, know a blog or otherwise want to blog about scultpure let me know.'

btw, you can add things to my blog but I reserve the right to keep them or delete them.... as the editor of my own blog....

I have a blog that I split between half personal ramblings and the other half of my sculpture. I still need to do some work on the archiving but it gets the job done. You can see it at

Michael,

Thanks! I am glad you like it. I need to make it so people can see all of the art I post not just the last few.

I use Moveable Type (http://www.moveabletype.org/) for the blog. It took a bit of work to set up but it is really nice to use.

I would be glad to help you with the html and such. I am a software engineer by day. (Wish I was an artist by day :( )

I just added you to my people links. :D

Sam

P.S. When I get home tonight I will explore your site and blog further. Work always get in the way for fun...

why did you choose moveable type over pmachine? or others?

Some of my friends use it and I liked the features. It is also one of the most popular blog systems out there, not that being popular equates to being good. One of the featues I like is called trackback. It allows you to link to other Moveable Type blogs and if they have trackback turned on it will automatically set up a link to your site. Deanforamerica.com (http://blog.deanforamerica.com) uses MT and trackback. If you visit that site look for an entry titled "Larry King Transcript Available Online " and then click on the track back link. It will give you a list (autmatically generated) of people that linked to that blog entry.

I used to use somthing called CafeBlog or something, but it was really lacking any advanced features.

Hi all,

It would be possible for me to start a blog area, but I will need to have people sign-up for it separately.

pMachine is the program I was most considering, it looks like a interesting blog program and allows RSS headline syndication.

Hi Russ,

1. Actually, I didn't mean a blog area. I meant a computer and sculpture area. Thats an area that could contain an area called blog.

2. In terms of passwords and separate areas, I don't know how you've got the forum set but I was thinking of an area within the "sculpture roundtable discussion". It would be LIKE "Welcome Center" or "Figurative Sculpture" or "Sculpture Magazine".

cheers!!

Michael,

This sculpture community forum IS essentially a Web Log. It doesn't make sense to set up something else. This one works fine. I think the web team did a great job of setting this up.

Check out www.aigalosangeles.org for a creative use of web logging. I think it's pretty effective. They used Movable Type's blog engine to power the site. Unfortunately, it requires Netscape 6 or above or IE 5 and above to work properly.

I wnet to check out your blog and was deterred by the registration process. Too many questions so I opted out.

I guess my suggestion isn't clear. It is NOT to create a new blog or use different software or install a different area at sculpture.net. It is to make a new "category" at the sculpture. net site. The category might be under the "sculpture roundtable area", after "figurative sculpture" and before sculpture magazine.

Agreed. Russ and co did a great job setting up this site!!

Hello Michael,
I also designed my portfolio site in Movabletype. I was teaching life drawing at a drop in art centre and I used the blog to download thoughts after the class. Having recently moved from Dublin to New York the site is sorely out of date... Just missed your show but your work looks amazing.

xsculpt,

I get it now. You're right. How about a section for Computer Technology Tools for sculpture. This could also include such things as setting up your own web site and getting support. Blogs could be just one aspect.

Got carried away on the blogging aspect!

I like that.

It could contain sub categories such as:

Documentation and Dissemenation
Web Sites
Cd Roms
managing images
managing movies
Interactive 3D
accounting programs and practices
CAD, Animation, modeling, rendering
computer aided manufacture

and other topics

hmm. thats a lotta potatoes.
