Looks like this poor guys anatomy is about to explode. Better get out of the way. But, you know what, I like it. A lot. I'd rather look at this rugged work than at the anatomically correct, slick, shiny and BORING works that appear in the photo gallery.

Hey Merlion, if you think this figure is horrible, imagine what this sculptor might do with a female.

I'm going to try and find more of this guys work in the web.

It is chunky but so much better than a lot of the items out there passing as art. Considering the area had grand dragon and an assortment of KKK biz related ventures in it years ago mail order type. They shut down an auction of the KKK items in the last 6 months. I suspect that we will be hearing more about it and the sculpturor. What a great way toget publicity for the big fetivitties this summer. Clever these politicos!

The story still continues with these public sculptures bought by the Brighton city council, including the nude man.

City may relocate sculpture of nude man (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070423/METRO04/704230358/1015)

April 23, 2007, BRIGHTON -- A controversial sculpture of a nude man may find a new, less visible, home downtown.

The City Council is considering switching "Decision Pending" in the bustling Mill Pond area with the crowd favorite, "The Children," on North Street.

"This was to remove some controversy and balance that with the citizens saying we don't necessarily want this, and those that want to protect freedom of expression," said Mayor Steve Monet.

The council recently spent $10,000 on "The Children" by Marie Davis; the Downtown Development Authority spent $50,000 on three sculptures including the nude male. The life-size bronze sculpture by artist Jay Holland sparked controversy when it was installed last spring as part of the Brighton Biennial.

The council will discuss moving "The Children" to the Mill Pond area at its May 3 meeting. "Decision Pending" could replace it on North Street or another location downtown, Monet said.

"The further they could move it the better," said resident Patrick Flynn.

Talking to somebody that lives and shops there. They majority of the people they know don't have a problem with it just its location in the area with high childern traffic. And coming on the long standing Oakland county child killer #1 suspect. Being put away on unrelated prono charges relating to kids. So though it was a little dumb of the local politico's letting them put it up in a spot that has been in dispute since day one. And most voters do have long memories, at least to the next election LOL

The Brighton authorities has made a decision about this male nude statue called 'Decision Pending'. See story in an above post about the objection of some local residents and even the Mayor. It will stay put.

After abuse, debate, nude statue to stay (http://www.mlive.com/news/annarbornews/index.ssf?/base/news-9/1178289697119150.xml&coll=2)

May 4, 2007, BRIGHTON - It's been verbally maligned and physically knocked down, but the sculpture of a naked man will stay put for another year at the Main Street entrance to a popular downtown Brighton park.

On a 4-2 vote Thursday night, the City Council decided to return artist Jay Holland's "Decision Pending'' sculpture to its original location at Mill Pond Park.

Mayor Steve Monet proposed moving the sculpture to a less conspicuous location, in light of criticism from some quarters in the community who say its too risque to place at the entrance to a family park.

The sculpture was recently tipped over on its base by vandals, and was removed in order to repair the pedestal. The statue itself was not damaged, and is to be returned in about one week after repairs are completed.

The mayor was philosophical after being on the losing side of the vote.

"I support moving it, but I also support the right of freedom of speech and expression,'' Monet said.

The statue is part of the Brighton Biennial, an exhibit of nearly 30 large-scale sculptures by a variety of artists in the downtown area. .....

The sculpture is to remain at the site until fall 2008, when the sculptures are scheduled to be rotated. .........
