One of Scottsdale’s most anticipated public art pieces is being installed today. “The Doors,” a 28-foot high sculpture designed by artist Donald Lipski is being secured to the ground at the southwest corner of Scottsdale and Camelback roads, in front of P.F. Chang’s restaurant.

When complete, visitors will be able to stand inside the space created by the three wooden doors, which lean against each other like playing cards.

The interior of the sculpture is lined with reflective steel, and the doors create a triangular opening at the top. The effect is similar to standing inside a giant kaleidoscope.

“When you’re in there it’s like you’re standing in the shade, in a dark space, but then there’s this big sky at the top, which I thought was interesting,” said Lipski, who was on hand to direct the installation Tuesday.....
