GARRISON, NY, May 2, 2007 - Garrison Art Center will present “CURRENT: A Sculpture Tour” beginning May 28 and ending August 12, 2007. This free large-scale sculpture exhibition will be set among four magnificent sites in Garrison, NY: on the riverfront grounds of Boscobel, through the woodland paths of Manitoga, along the riverbanks of Garrison’s Landing and in the meadows of the Desmond-Fish Library. This evocative presentation will feature fourteen sculptors, representing diverse viewpoints and using the dramatic Hudson River and Highlands as a backdrop.
On Sunday, May 27, prior to the public opening, GAC will host a special preview tour of CURRENT followed by a party honoring the artists and in support of the GAC Scholarship Fund. The self-guided tour begins at 3:00 PM at GAC on Garrison’s Landing. At 5:00 PM, guests can return to Garrison’s Landing for the festivities, where they will meet the artists, enjoy cocktails, food catered by Croton restaurant, Memphis Mae’s BBQ Bistro, coffee and dessert. Music will be provided by the NYC jazz band "Creole Cooking". The cost of this scholarship fundraiser is $125 per person, $200 per couple. The “Preview and Party” is a rain or shine event and reservations are requested by May 15th. Please call GAC, 845.424.3960, for reservations.
After May 28th and until August 12th, the sculpture exhibits will be open to the general public and guests are encouraged to linger among these historic landscapes where art and nature unite. The four CURRENT landmark exhibition sites are all located within five-miles of each other in Garrison, NY and are accessible by car:
• Boscobel, a House Museum of the Federal Period, set among landscaped gardens on the bluffs of the Hudson River affording breathtaking views of Constitution Island and the Hudson River and home to the popular Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.
• Manitoga/The Russel Wright Design Center, former Home, Studio and 75-acre Woodland Garden of industrial modernist designer Russel Wright. This National Historic Landmark includes four miles of hiking trails with links to the Appalachian Trail.
• The Desmond-Fish Library, an award-winning community library founded by former congressman, Hamilton Fish and his wife Alice Desmond, is located with a beautiful meadow surrounded by Hudson Highland vistas.
• Garrison’s Landing, on the banks of the Hudson River with dramatic views of West Point and Storm King Mountain and home to Garrison Art Center.
