I have just begun to sculpt in stone and its got its claw chisels hooked into me! I love the stone, it has a presence and an addictive nature I can't resist.Since I am a true stone newbie I have decided to start on a soft soapstone and alabaster and I just cant leave it alone.I have sculpted in clays and am an avid molder and caster of resins, but the stone is special.I dont have my first piece finished but can't wait to post it up when I do.I could use all the feedback I can get.I graduated in 93 from a local college with a BA and did mostly flat work but have discovered that sculpting is my true love.I am hoping to get at least one piece done for next weekend to debut it at a local show I'm attending. It is beginning to look like an abstraction of a goose flying and Im in love with it.I need some advice on the polishing of the soapstone and bruising troubles if anyone would like to reply with advice.I also wanted to say to icreate, wow what a nice piece of the ball player, you are truly gifted. What was the sculpture medium ? Attached is a photo of my stone, it has only had the rough edges tapped off at this point, but I will keep it updated as I go.Thanks to all!
