does anyone know if there is a blacklist for artists? some kind of gallery organisation... ?
i have had some curious results over the years sometimes quite perplexing.
years ago i did 'the right thing' and probably made an enemy. seems that the oddness stems from then....PARANOIA!

seems like paranoia to me.....of course just because you're paranoid that doesn't mean THEY are not out to get you.....
Dealers gossip, just like artists do.
And if somebody passes the word around that you are "difficult", well some may decide not to deal with you.
But art dealers are not monolithic, or one big conspiracy- there are plenty of them involved in petty fueds with each other, in competitive wars, plenty of dealers who wont go to a party if a certain other dealer will be there, and lots and lots of dealers who continue to show artists that dont sell at all, just because they like em.
They are just people. Petty, stupid, sincere, phony, smart, greedy, and everything else all other people are.

yes i am difficult, its part of my drive and work. some gallerists are shy of this as everything seems to have to be so pleasant and subservient? for their clients. so tepid.
being in HK i have noticed that the great interest in new Chinese art is likely to be more the cheapness of the artist and easy manipulation, than cultural curiosity, sorry to say it. the work in galleries is often geared to what a fat stupid businessman might buy...incredible mediocrity, nothing new then afterall.
[good Chinese art does exist]

Racine:
You may have better fortune if you just focus on what it is that you love to do in art, and not waste energy carrying a condemnatory attitude about how you percieve galleries or potential buyers of artwork.
However, if it is important for you to hold those attitudes, then why get involved with these galleries at all? Create your own gallery where you don't have to be " tepid, pleasant, or subservient " or cater to " big, fat, stupid businessmen " . You can be gnarly and edgy, tell those businessmen to hit the road if they dare to walk through your door, and pay the bills from sales that your more select group of customers provide.

wow, 5 minutes in a condemnatory attitude ...for life? please no, rather.. flyiing a kite and see what turns up? if only another talk over galleries, no problem, all ears. there is always something to learn. curiosity.
running own space is a good idea if a good situation. i did it for a year it worked more for those i helped thankfully, also worked for me in other ways, a very good time, no sales but that was the point... running a space and working for a living [decorating], just wanted more studio time, that was the lesson.
i have only had genuine problems with people who thought it a good idea to run a gallery who hadnt any experience in making and understanding art. they mean well in their own minds, [bar one sadly]
galleries are part of the way forward for many artists, anyone know a good gallery?
