I recently purchased this bronze in Toronto Canada at a "vintage furniture" store. They knew nothing about the origins but I bought it because I instantly loved it. I would love to find out more about the creator. Any help in my search would be greatly appreciated.

The piece is 83.5 cm high. Bronze and sits on a 77 cm high marble base
Signed "Jeanneke" dated '75

Thanks in advance,

Bought recently in Toronto Canada. Signed "Jeannekke" and dated '75.
It is bronze and stands 83.5 cm high on a 77 cm high marble base.
Would love to know more about the sculptor.
Any help or directions for my search would be greatly appreciated. All I have found out is the name seems to be Dutch or Belgian.

Thanks in advance,

My first inclination was Dutch/Belgian as you noted above.

As far as I am aware, the use of the 'ekke' suffix on a personal name in the Dutch language
is typically used to suggest affection for a given person.

I agree it's a fine piece, though I can't help with the artist. Reminds me a bit of early Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, and a half-dozen others working about the same time - sort of early figurative modernism.

I just replied to your similar post in Community Help. We encourage people not to make very similar posts in two or more locations, because following answers is more difficult. However, these are your first posts, so I simply note the other reply above. Hope you find the artist - it's a good piece.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'll have to find out more about Dutch names. The "A" in "JEAN..." may be an "R" but "JERN..." doesn't seem to be a name. I buy a lot of paintings with unknown artists and I understand that a "weekend painter" can pick up a brush and canvas, but a sculpture doesn't seem like it would be done by a hobbist. Sorry about the double listing...Rick

I have tried searching the work "Jern" and have found that it means "iron" in Norwegian. Maybe it is not a signature at all...maybe a title instead.
