I'm looking for a foundry to cast plaster objects out of (if possible) Lead... Wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations of potential foundries, even those that can't cast Lead, in New York City?

I'd also like to anodize aluminum to give color to an aluminum piece of mine. I understand that it's relatively simple to put together my own anodization-coloring line, but this is for a single piece, and might anyone be able to, likewise, recommend a location in NYC that colors aluminum or titanium for sculptural works?

My first thread, love the site, and glad to be a part of it -

I cant imagine you will find a foundry that will cast lead for you- with the current environmental laws, it would cost a fortune- its just too dangerous to be economical, and industrially, it has been replaced in most uses.

As for foundries in NYC- it seems like you are 50 years too late.
Lower Manhattan used to be an industrial neighborhood- I used to buy stampings from a plant that was down by Wall Street- but the last machinery dealer moved out last year, the industry is long gone.
Bjork was considering buying a $5 million dollar loft in the "machinery exchange building".

Look in Jersey.

Look online here-

this place, for example, is called the "Brooklyn Foundry", and, once upon a time, it probably was in Brooklyn. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...

Thanks for the info Ries... And you are correct about about not being able to find a foundry that casts Lead in NYC, although I was told that there might be places in Providence RI, "because they can do anything out there," in case anyone was interested.

Using metal coatings offered by Ron Young's "Sculpt Nouveau" and experimenting with his cold patinas to decide on the type of metal I'd like to eventually have cast (brass, copper, steel)...

Then I'll most likely get a quote from the Polich Tallix Foundry in NY, that's about an hour and half from the city... They were very helpful when I called and spoke to a salesrep.
