I am entering a few pieces in competitions. My problem is that I am just starting out and therefore have very little on my resume, what do I even put on my resume? My work history? I have taken some glass and welding workshops. The only show I have ever had was my BFA show. I haven't placed any real pieces with any one, nothing that any one has paid for and mostly glass work at that, defiantly dose not reflect the large scale sculpture I am presenting maquettes of. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, We've all been in that situation early in our art careers and the best advice I could give is to emphasize ALL, even trivial stuff that you've been involved with regarding your budding art career.
Get your work out there, juried shows, whatever, as your experience and participation in various art endeavors grows, you can weed out the more trivial stuff from your resume but I'd always keep a record of everything.
I have records going back to the early 70s if you can believe that but usually don't trot that stuff out unless asked for a full and extensive resume.
Have a great day,
Jeff

Also, you got to go out on a limb and make a bunch of big stuff that will not immediately earn you a dime. But THAT is the stuff that will give future opportunities their credibility. Drag it out to a field and photograph it...who knows whether it was a paid commission or not?

It's expected that you wouldn't have much starting out (that said, I'm sometimes intimidated by artists who just finished university and have more shows to list than I have anything to list on my CV!). You could also supplement your CV with a bio/personal statement.
I agree with Evaldart that at some point you'll just need to make the large work. If you can't afford it, you may want to consider an apprenticeship somewhere with "perks" ;)
