Found!!!

I don't know where I should post this or if I'm in the right place.
About 10 years ago we were replacing our porch, buried deep in the dirt was a bust of a womans head. It is beautiful, alittle weathered. It has markings or numbers on it.
I don't know where to take it to find out what I have found or if it has any value. Please help. :confused:

A very interesting find. Where are you and your porch located? How old was the porch? Is this head bronze, or stone, or ceramic? All of those would be helpful to know. If you're near a University with an Art Department, I'd walk in there with it and ask for opinions. They could surely point you in a direction if they couldn't identify it for certain. If not a University, a good gallery could do the same. Many artists and foundries and other manufacturers used various codes and marks to i.d. their works, and it might take an expert to pin this down exactly. I say enjoy the mystery and every step of figuring it out. And if you think it's beautiful you've already won the prize, even if you don't end up on "Antiques Roadshow" with it. Good luck!

Aside from all the controversy about figurative sculpture I see, I personally am fascinated by heads of people made out of any material, I would love to see this piece sometime, I have been doing some heads and I have entertained the idea of carving a crude head or better and hiking it deep into the woods somewhere and just leav'in it.Only because I could imagine my own reaction if I found a piece way out in the middle of nowhere!
all the questions raised, speculations,etc.Digging one out of the ground is so much cooler! I wouldn't bury one lest it never be found. I'm already intrigued with your piece and I haven't even seen it. Please if you can show us a picture! One can only imagine how it got so deep in the ground. Was it attached to a base? I'm anxious to see it!
