Can anyone recommend a good stone sculpture magazine which gives lots of good information on carving, finishing, polishing?
Thanks

Hi Christine, you can check the techniques section as Black Cat pointed out or just ask any questions you like. Plenty of rock sculptors here to help you out. I am not aware of any dedicated rock sculpture magazines in the states, but there are plenty of good books, many free on google books and articles, websites etc..
Welcome. :)

I've been a wood carver for 10 plus years and am just getting into stone. I use the library and internet a lot, to find answers to my questions. My biggest problem is finishing my pieces. Everyone seems to have a different way of sealing, polishing, etc. I've tried a bunch of different methods but haven't found just the right one yet. I'm assuming every stone calls for its own finish, I just have to figure out what that is.

True, each type of stone has different qualities, marbles, alabasters, limestones etc.. Each piece though may call for its own kind of finish, whether very high polish or very light to none at all simply leaving the raw tool marks as-is. A commonly accepted practice has been to start with 120 grit sandpaper and work out all of the scratches until the next, 220, 320, 400, 600 and stop there making sure each series has had their own scratches smoothed before proceeding.
This can be done by hand, wet or dry (I dry sand myself) or by machine, grinder with polishing/sanding pads etc.. I also like seeing variety in surfaces when a piece calls for it, some areas may be rough and others polished,.. Just depends on what you like.
