Hi I am currently looking to rent a place, on the Isle of Lewis outer Hebrides, Scotland. Problem is a lot of places have no sheds/workshops where I am.

Can anyone advise me if light TIG welding work could possibly be done indoors ie a kitchen if I create some sort of module unit for fireproofing and ventilation?
The TIG work will be welding thin sheet metal and rods etc.

Where I am is great, but its the sort of place where everyone knows everyone so I am not really wanting to weld outside incase the landlord gets wind of it and on top of that it is always windy here.

Ive asked around but doesnt seem too be many cheap sheds/workspaces to rent. As you could imagine this is really frustrating.

Any advice? :( :)

Seems to me you could whip up some kind of basic outdoor structure with 2X4s and some welding tarps. I'm guessing wind will be a pretty big issue - even so, I wouldn't TIG in the kitchen.

More importantly, will you have room for me to come out and work too! Isle of freakin' Lewis! Poor you and your welding concerns!:D

I eventually plan to get my own small place here, perhaps I should offer artists to come and stay here for a few weeks for holiday, small workshop and studio inclusive, lol. Paddle and surfboards too.

Yes I just realised Tig in kitchen is not a good idea with water.

I'm certain you'd get many takers if you offered a sculptor's vacation package.:)

Any possibility of a porch conversion for a TIG area? again with appropriate welding tarps, etc.

Do you have any type of metal shipping containers for sale or rent? Since they are 'portable', you could move it anywhere you need. :)

Shipping containers are a cool idea. Mind you if you rent somewhere and landlady/lord sees you turn up the next day with a shipping crate they wont be pleased lol. I think things are different in the UK when it comes to renting.

I will look into tarp idea too.

I am glad the Isle of Lewis is of interest to people.
One thing here is that the sea water colour on many of the beaches is an stunning turquoise, even in mid winter.

Perhaps when I manage to get my own small place here could look to homeswap for a month or so if anyone was interested!
I was going to upload a photo of the nice colours here but I am only on usb mobile connection.
But my paddle blog has some photos though -
