I read an article by a welding teacher that suggested coating all the threads on a pair of boots with "silicon sealer" to keep them from burning away while flame cutting.

I've lost many a sole so I'm going to try it.

Now, how to keep the laces from disappearing? Maybe they can be removed, dragged through some sealer, left to dry, then reinstalled! Worth a try.

I used to just cover them with duct tape, now I just have shoes that slip on so I don't have to replace laces.

Duct tape (http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/) works great... also round toed boots (no seam) and leather laces.

good idea with the silicon, bound to inspire many 'what have you got on your boots' conversations. Welding rod for laces.
