Hi,

I am a new member and would like some information on how to cast an outdoor wall fountain.

I recently traveled to Florence, Italy and saw a wonderful door knocker that I would like to recreate as an outdoor water fountain.

I would like to know what wheter or not I should scultp it out of clay and then cast it in concrete or should I just use the clay? If so, then what type of clay should I use?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Either material will work, however be aware that both will eventually succumb to errosion over time with constant contact with water. Clay that has been glazed and fired will last quite a long time. When possible it is best to avoid sculpture to water contact. It is also adviseable to be certain that your plumbing remains accessible for maintenance and periodic replacement. There was a previous string of posts on the subject of fountains in this forum.
