I've just gained access to a laser cutter and am looking for ideas for materials to try cutting. I'd never used one before - pretty amazing! This is a small one - 12" x 24" bed and the little test files I ran tonight on plexi came out amazing - so now I am wondering what else I can use.

The obvious materials:
papers --bristol, chipboard, matte board
foam core
woods --thin veneers, 1/4 ply (don't know how thick it can go)
fabrics
plastics

what am I missing?

you should be more concerned about materials NOT to cut with a laser cutter, especially PVC. Fumes from such an event will do very, very nasty things to you. You should make sure you have superb ventilation no matter what you're cutting.

I worked in an architectural firm and we slapped one of those babies in our model shop, which didn't really have shop-grade HVAC - and even if you cut plain brown cardboard the whole place smelled like a campfire.

Don't want to be the voice of doom just when you're starting to have fun, but hey, the longer you live the more fun you can have ...
