Have any members signed up for MEETUP?
I heard about Meetup on CNN last week.
It is a place for people of similar interests to meet locally.
It has groups for just about everything imaginable from politics,dogs, art,dancing etc etc...
It is not just for the USA. There are Meetups all over the world.
Here is the link if anyone is interested:

Bonnie I signed myself up. I havent had hardly any time to look deeper into it. It looks very promicing. Especially for those of us in densly populated areas. There were only a few artist signed up in the Tacoma WA area but with a little time that will change. I researched online dating networks a few years ago and a quick look at yahoo msn etc services shows that has exploded. I think I'll create a new e-mail address so if I meet-up with someone I want to avoid it will be easier to do. But I would dig live meet-ups with varied artist.

Stehen,
Did you read all the comments about Meetup that have appeared in magazines, newspapers etc?
I see there is a polymer clay meetup started, but no paper mache.I have submitted that.
I live in a large urban area but all the art groups I have checked are not exclusively paper mache which is what I would like . I submitted paper mache as a topic.
Goodluck.I hope you attend a polymerclay meetup and write about it!

Nope you were my sole source of info about Meet-Up. Even as a well medicated manic-depressive I limit my news browsing and don't watch television at all. But I use the living heck out of www.netflix.com for a ton of movies. And the local library system. This way I avoid ALL the commercials, and keep a balance of positive stimulas in my life. I plan on posting a thread mentioning netflix and Rhapsody -> www.listen.com its more music than you can shake a stick at if you have broadband. And its only $9.99 a month. Sony, BMG, and others. Legal and digital quality.
Anyhow I know there is a polymer clay guild north of me in Seattle. I think I might subscribe to meet-up and organize some meet-ups in Tacoma Lakewood area. You might do some new searches for meche guilds. I use the free service (slow modem works fine for it) www.coppernic.com software to do deep research. Although to my surprise I just did a few search for groups of paper meche artist and came up empty. I suspect their are about the same amount of meche and polymer artist out there. With a little effort and patience I think we will meet up with other such artist. Printing up some of meet-ups bulletins to post at our local craft stores might help. Your far enough allong that you could be teaching a course on the subject.
Most other polymer artist do jewlrey and dolls and although my work is heavier and more toward realistic featuring I know I could learn a ton from others experience with the process of creation and maniulating the medium.
Bye the way here is an example of a fine artist in polymer

Ok here is the news today.
I subscribed to Meetup for the $20 that covers 6 months of advanced features. I then elected to host the new "Polymer Clay Meetup & the Art Meetup, both in Tacoma. And a freind of mine Dusty Worthington has joined both of them, (You should be hearing from him in these forums soon. Dusty get in here.)
I then proceeded to also suggest a Paper Meche Meetup on a International scale. I going back and also add a suggestion that they should also link all common spellings of;
Paper Mache
Paper Meche
Papier Mache
Papier Meche.
Bonnie Are you familure with any other spellings of it? I will wait until tomorrow before I submit the requested additions, to see if you want me to add anything. I know it is an extensively used technique in France.

One hundred meet ups topics in Tacoma. I also offered to host an Atkins Diet Meetup that is still flowndering.
Meetups are free but if you want to be a host and a couple other features a few bucks a moth is needed. I popped the 19 bucks for half a year so I can meet other artist. And maybe dieters! Atkins saved my bacon. I was stroking out and half blind. I started it on a whim and dropped 40 pounds in a couple months. I will post picks once I get my camera.
This month I am buying 30 sculpting tools, so that is where my doe is going. But I did set aside some donut money for the meetups.
Thier system needs a lot of improvement but I understand this spring it is getting a facelift. Right now the only way for others to e-mail eachother is if we put our e-mail address in our intoductionary blurb to each group.
I did e-mail the alternate spellings for Paper Mache. The auto responce i got from MU said it sometimes takes a month to get new subjects added.

Bonnie here is a copy of the e-mail I received this afternoon. So just join up in your home town and get the ball rolling. It might take a few weeks to get a few to join. I put my e-mail address and hosted my subjects, just to break the ice.
International Paper Mache Meetup Day
Hello,
This is Laura from Meetup. I wanted to let you know that your
Paper Mache topic is now live.
You can check it out, sign up and find details here:
* http://papermache.meetup.com/
It may have been several weeks since you submitted your
suggestion, and I apologize for the delay. There are currently
thousands of topics waiting for activation, and more submitted
every day. We are trying our best, so thanks for your patience.
Let's get this off to a great start! In our experience, we've
found two crucial elements for a successful Meetup.
1) Good Venues. We've tried to get the best possible venues,
but we're not perfect (yet). If you have any suggestions for
venues, you can submit them here:
* http://papermache.meetup.com/suggest/venue/
2) Bigger groups make better Meetups. Our users have told us
meeting 3 other people is great, and meeting 6 is even better
If you have a website, post a link about International Paper
Mache Meetup Day. We made some links that you can find here:
* http://papermache.meetup.com/share/
Don't forget, Meetup+ members can nominate a venue directly
onto the ballot. They set agenda items and publish notebooks,
too. Meetup+ is a great way to contribute to your Meetup
community. Learn more here:
* http://papermache.meetup.com/plus/
If you know other Paper Mache Hobbyists, you can invite them
along here:
* http://papermache.meetup.com/tellfriends/
Finally, post to sites, lists, groups, and discussion boards so
other folks can find out about Meetup.
Please let me know of any questions, comments, or tips for us.
Thanks for the suggestion! Active users like you are helping
Meetup thrive.
Have a great Meetup!
Laura
