Artist's 'sculpture' is sound of music to shoppers (http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/highlights/Artists-sculpture-is-sound-of.3787353.jp)
20 Feb 2008. An artist is piping calming sounds to busy shoppers in an effort to lull them into a state of tranquillity and bliss.
Neil Webb's sound sculpture at Sheffield's Winter Garden is a relaxing blend of natural sounds and the sounds of people. It is played through special speakers which stimulate the garden's glass surfaces to amplify the sounds.
The building itself will then become the speaker playing the sounds, which should create a feeling of being in a relaxed, tranquil space such as an aquarium.

The installation aims to create a different experience by slowing the pace of life and creating time for those within the Winter Garden to consider new thoughts and sensations. Webb said: "I'm very happy to just slow down time. Whether it's five minutes or 10 minutes, I hope this will relax the mind and power up the batteries." ...
The Winter Garden will be full of new sounds until Sunday, March 30.
