METAL CASTING Appropriate technology in the small foundry - STEVE HURST

I went to look for this book and all I found was out of print versions for over $100.

Then I came along a Scribd link that seems to have the entire book up for free!

I've only skimmed the book so far. There does seem to be a lot of good information there though. Sure as heck worth it for the price!

If you're new to casting it would be a great place to start.

Re: METAL CASTING Appropriate technology in the small foundry - STEVE HURST

I bought it from Amazon a few months ago, new, at a very good price.

As a bronze caster, it is one of the three books I have found to be indispensable. The other two are:

Brass Casting by C.W. Ammen
From Clay to Bronze by Tuck Langland

If you are going to cast brass or bronze that Ammen book contains information it would take years to learn from experience. For instance: Never get even a trace of silicon in an alloy containing lead, and never get a trace of lead in silicon bronze. One hidden source of silicon is from silicon bronze seat inserts in red brass plumbing valves.

Hurst and Ammen both speak from many years of professional foundry experience. Langland was a sculptor and a college instructor and offers good hands on methods.
