Re: Let's See Some Work!!!

Here are a couple of bust's I've recently finished. The African American woman bust was designed by Thomas Blackshear for is Ebony Visions line of figurines.
This is the first larger scale piece they are producing.
This will be produced in either porcelain or resin, Not sure yet. I do wish they would produce them in bronze.
The little girl is a personal piece I plan on casting in bronze when I get some time. These are sculpted in Chavant NSP medium.

Mark.

Re: Let's See Some Work!!!

Mark,

Your work is just staggering, as usual. Your Ebony Visions collection is some of the finest I have ever seen. Truely an inspiration.

Re: Let's See Some Work!!!

Hi Chris, you are correct it is two cats as a Yin and Yang symbol, the rabbits is my effort at producing the universal three hares symbol

Re: Let's See Some Work!!!

Rightee-then... Have only posted once before and that was YEARS ago...

Have attached photos of a recent series I did for the ATP (tennis pro organization) of the top 8 tennis players in the world. The commission involved portraying them as "Tennis Terracotta Warriors".

More pics at www.sculpture-design.com and you can Google the words TENNIS WARRIORS to find more stuff.

There are also several YOU TUBE videos about this series. Easy to search for under same keywords.

Would love feedback from my peers!

Re: Let's See Some Work!!!

Laury:

I think the terracotta tennis warriors project is hilarious, and I also think you have a real gift for conceptual art, if that is the right term. I like the way you explore and interpret ideas.

If I could venture one criticism, which is not unique to you by any means, but something we all have to deal with, it is that your portraits for the most part are a strong blend between your features and those of the subject. I did not see that as much in the tennis series, but moreso on the busts, such as John Travolta and others on the portrait page. It is easier for an outsider to see this than one's own self, who is interpreting features through the lense of their own sense of what features should look like.

That is an observation more than a value judgement, because the portraits are well-modeled and communicate strength of character.

Anyway, I think that you are a very competent and effective artist and am glad to make your acquaintance. Thanks for posting your work here.

Re: Let's See Some Work!!!

Welcome back, Laury, and congratulations on all the additional work.

I'm not sure I would have picked up right away on GlennT's observation that at least some of your faces resemble your own, but he's quite right that it is a factor that can show in any person's portraiture.

With the idea in mind, though, I saw the effect right away in your picture of John Travolta posing for his image, and I suspect it's also present in the group of tennis players. I'm not familiar with those people's appearance, but the three closest to the camera look more alike than three strangers probably would. Overall, congratulations, though, on a very active career.
