Smile Teacup sculpture

[IMG]http://[IMG]http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss77/alisonarty/1fe8948f.jpg[/

Asked to make a teacup sculpture to feature in a garden at the Sandringham show here in the UK.

I have never made anything on such a large scale before. I am more at home working with cake and icing, being an ex wedding cake designer and baker.
I had quite a job on my hands with this !

I made the framework using chicken wire which I reinforced with wire hoops to support the frame.
Covered this with filler foam and built up with One Coat plaster, so that's where I am with it now. Next job is to give it a waterproof coating.

Re: Teacup sculpture

No saucer required thank goodness !
I did ask, but they said it would take up far to much space in the garden.
It did cross my mind how on earth I would tackle that one !!
Got off lightly I think

Re: Teacup sculpture

A thing to consider just in case you havent done so. Put a drainage hole in the bottom. We're unlikely to get rain here in the sunny UK but you never can be too careful

Re: Teacup sculpture

Instead of drainage hole, put a small heating element in there, so it will 'steam' when it rains.

Re: Teacup sculpture

Why a cup? And what's the show you refer to?

Used to live quite close to Sandringham. I hope your cup is posh enough.

The Sandringham Flower and garden show.

It's in Norfolk.
I have Made two pieces.. The teacup and a figure made from chicken wire. The man is a feature of the Jubilee garden.
Yes, it's quite a posh teacup

Play on words

Royal tea.
Its the centrepiece of the garden. (Victorian garden)

Good luck with your show. I imagine it was fun for you to explore this new medium.

Re: Teacup sculpture

Thanks Jaz,
It's been so much fun..
Will be lost for something to do in my spare time when it's finished. (Nurse by Day)

I've kinda got the bug now and was thinking of making some smaller pieces.
I'm thinking along the lines of Garden .
