Latest WIP

I've been working on this longhorn bull for a week or so. It needs a lot of refinement. I am waiting now on some firmer plastaline because this soft stuff just won't cut it. He looks a little too fat and happy. I need him scruffy and tough. I don't want to overwork him either-- just "intensify" him.

Looks great but the in the photo that right front leg looks like it needs some thickening and the tail also.

I dont know this animal so cant comment on the anatomy. But I love the tension in the bent neck and the upturned head

Re: Latest WIP

Hi Mac, yes they are thin because they are not finished. I am waiting to get some firmer clay from Amizon. I just moved here, and do not have any art supplies, (my stuff is mostly still in a storage unit in Nebraska) so am using kids "hobby lobby" clay here.

It looks wonderful, Katy, it has personality, character, it's done. You are a natural in animal sculpture.

Re: Latest WIP

Great job Katy! The bull looks wild and lean, The hollow in front of the hindquarter and the lack of muscle mass on the rump indicate hard times on the range and not a happy life in a corn feedlot. looks good, keep posting pics.andrew

Re: Latest WIP

I see a bad-ass bull that I have absolutely no desire to jump the fence for.
What you got that appeals to me is the simple capture of a moment in time.
Some of you may call that "gesture."

It loses all meaning when you have a ton+ of live, warm meat that wants to "gesture" at you. They need to get up close and meet you and greet you then stomp and gore you to a pulp. Just for fun. Must be relatives of the bison who only want to crush you against the fence posts.
Nice, KatyL.

Re: Latest WIP

The head has changed a bit, and the horns are more done. I was working on a new horse (in background) for a few days and just got to this late last night.
