New Bronze Monument

Here are a few pictures of a monument that me and my partner Bob Hood
have just recently completed. It is 12 ft tall and weighs around 2300 lbs. The site is in St. John's Newfoundland. St. John's is the easternmost city in North America and was the place that Europeans first came to settle in the new world. The sculpture is dedicated to the arts in the area and is placed on George Street. George Street is famous for is debauchery and drinking/nightlife as it is commonly believed that it has the highest number of bars per square ft in North America. In the statue there are a few noteworthy characters depicted. One of them is Tommy Sexton who was a gay comedian who became famous here for being on a Canadian/Newfoundland show called Codco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWZPVDYNDCE He passed away from Aids in 1993 and has become and inspiration to the people of Newfoundland for his performing abilities and comic wit. Another noteworthy character on the statue is Ron Hynes who is a singer songwriter who wrote a very famous tune called Sonny's dream http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byQBsH-iQQs

Together myself and Bob built a bronze foundry and cast this piece solely ourselves without having cast a large piece prior. I am the sculptor of this piece but Bob has had a large part in the making of this statue we have a facebook group started detialing the whole endeavour but here are some pics of the whole experience and some videos.

Re: New Bronze Monument

You sculpted this piece? I remember commenting on it a long time ago. Are you using a new user name?

Either way, it looks like you managed to get it done rather well. It looks good. You should be very proud.

Re: New Bronze Monument

Thanks it was a monumental effort just to cast the piece with just two people
let alone sculpt it and design it.
