![]() this part of the article I identify with a lot: "Creativity is certainly about not being constrained by rules or accepting the restrictions that society places on us. Of course the more people break the rules, the more likely they are to be perceived as 'mentally ill'." Rules breaking not to any extreme though, a continuos struggle towards moderation... INTERESTING ! |

Re: More ant probing
Bold generalizations and whack-a-doodle conclusions. Goff claimed that 75% of all humans should be institutionalized due to "mental illness" which would really be short-hand for saying 75% of all people are "creative." That makes sense. Most of the misery I have encountered in my life is being relegated to the assembly line, made to work like a slave, and Not To Be Creative. I personally think that Most people are Creative, and assigning that label only to a small amount of people is blindness. Obviously, only some people can draw, paint, or sculpt, others can write, even more can create music or poetry. Just because a small number of people are "famous" does not mean that a whole boat-load of people are not creative, they just do not know the tricks. Art is a Craft in the sense that building houses is a craft. It is learn-able, and train-able. What seems to come naturally to some people and not others is the degree to which it is used to make "connections" as the author of this article said. I think the missing element is "audacity"-- that which makes you, the artist, not shrink back into the crowd, and remain anonymous.

Sure a person can be trained but that training has no effect on inspiration or the why or what they create, I have meet lots of artist (schooled) that create nothing or can only reproduce seen images.(assembly line) Boldness/audacity is just one part of it. Yeap, There`s a difference between having the potential to be, and just being, and all in between a gradient of aptitudes that will range from the simple hominid state to the brightest mind, and at times difficult to discern which extreme we`re dealing with ![]() |
