New Year's Studio Resolutions!

Here is a link to last years:

http://www.sculpture.net/community/s...ead.php?t=9828

I fell short on finding a gallery but did alright otherwse.

I'm lucky to already have some good gigs lined up for 2011 and a game plan for new work - but in additional goals for this coming year including:

1. redesign and update my website
2. approach some galleries/stop waiting for the "right moment"
3. purge old work from the studio and organize/store the stuff I want to hang on to.

Best to everyone in the New Year!!!

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

mine are-

Make stuff from materials I already have- which is literally tons of stuff.

Make stuff I can SELL.

Clean up- the place is a mess, by my standards.

Throw stuff away. I have things I have owned for 30 years and not used, heavy objects I have moved all the way to California and back. I am not a collector. Of course, I wont throw away good stuff- but, for instance, I have a bunch of neon supplies- transformer, cable, standoffs- that I havent touched in 20 years, and I know a neon sculptor down the road who WILL use em. They are going to him, soon.

Update the website. Right now, my password wont even work- I have let that one slide for far too long.

Enter competitions, do shows, put my ass out there in the world.

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

Clean and organize is always on my list...I never do it.

Beg, borrow, steal to finally get the gasoline torch kit.

Get more junk...I always do that one.

I cant be concerned about the selling and the showing. Thats just career and survival stuff... all gets taken care of easily enough when I'm NOT in the studio. So its not on my list.

Do what it takes not to deteriorate physically (will this be the year that the body goes south and I start squeezing tubes of oil paint?).

Be nicer to my truck (I take ol Snowflake for granted).

Buy a dog.

Its 2011 SCULPT OR GET SCULPTED! Happy new year old and new friends of our little online (hornets?) nest.

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

buzzz buzz..
considering to start an open studio sort of thing.. my minimal facilities are still all pretty much what HK has got i terms of casting and dirty work. which is why its so bereft of sculptors. [both]
and the casting school etc... thats still to start so thats gonna be fun, so i guess the resolution is to put the studio on the map.

more bronzes, i make too few a year, bigger too, anything goes, its war.
if i can find the line between creation and destruction where one becomes the other and sustain it, then its an achievement. maybe can destroy by creation.

oh and as for sculptnet... perhaps try to suffer fools gladly a bit more, dont have the time so much these days to enjoy the occasional mindless slaughter..
nor do i have time to finish this..

E, do u need to buy a dog when there are so many abandoned curlytailedcurs needing homes

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

My place is too clean, which means I've not done nearly enough last year.. I did get a new 2010 Tundra crew max and that thing makes me very happy as I don't have to worry too much about payload anymore.
Like Ries I need to use materials I already have and I do have several smaller things going in progress.

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

I dont know how they do dogs in hong kong Race. but when you get a dog from the shelter here in the states you PAY them. Its called buying. Is that moral enough for you?

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

its incredible here in HK, E. the way animals are treated in the 'country' here is often bad. direct cruelty is rarer but neglect is common and often extreme. it can be shameful since most those dogs are 'owned' by someone.in fact i am at a loss to describe what i see all to frequently. we keep houndfeed in the car for when we see a bad case. feeding is resented so we are discreet.
at home cats got here first and any canine visitors have been a bit of a problem so one eyed bedraggled kittens in drains get rescued first. plenty of rats.

Racine, don`t mean to hijack post, but aint dogs, cats and rats viewed instead as culinary options there ..., the line between animal cruelty and practical feeding may be thin huh.

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

My resolution (goal) is better sales at the shows with lower priced works that will blend well with, yet still compliment, the high-end pieces.
Clear out more work space by reducing clutter of raw material.
Find the shop cat (meal on legs) who falls in love with anyone who walks in a real home. Get her a nice stool instead of holding her when she works.
Catch up the Honey-do-list once and far all.

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

I don't usually do resolutions, but 2010 was so slow that I'm going to set some goals this year!
  1. Stop making excuses and just sculpt regularly, even for a half hour a day
  2. Post photos more regularly
  3. Get started with video of sculpting in progress
  4. Do another serious round of portfolio blanketing

Wink Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

Make as many stone sculptures as I can to become fluent.

FInd a way to combine music with sculpture.

There, that should take about a year..

Re: New Year's Studio Resolutions!

I am getting too damn old to be making big pieces. So I have decided this year I will make and mold smaller pieces. Yes, and portfolios out. I spend most of my time painting but I do have lots and lots of sculptural pieces and lots of sculpting supplies too. I'm not sure I can sculpt small but we'll see.

And as for cleaning my studio? NO! (Wouldn't mine if it was heated though)
