Thanks for the wishes -- this is my first show in over a year so I'm really looking forward to getting out there and feeling the response to the latest works and some new patinas.
I hear the there is a tremendous variety of art at this show, so I'll definitely take some photos to share.

Congratulations and good luck, rick. I wrote for the Loveland Academy (name??) catalog several years ago, after seeing running ads for classes in “Sculpture”, both for additional instruction, and to consider submitting material to this obviously popular show and venue.

I decided that I probably could do as well on my own in classes, and that the show also wasn’t for me, but the visiting faculty members had impressive resumes, and it’s clearly a good venue for figurists and realists in general.

One enthusiast posted here, I believe, that Loveland is the real U. S. center of sculpture.

P.S. - Are these colors (whitish) correct? If so, I’d guess silver nitrate or bismuth patina, as in Ron Young’s book.

And Fritchie, the patinas shown in the two photos are: bismuth/titanium dioxide, liver and ferric nitrate with a splashes of cupric (nitrate?) for some blue green in the base. I do have some works with silver nitrate, which I love in the right lighting (athlete, portrait of Matt Bancroft), but these have no silver.

Its funny that you mention Ron Young, I have been so frustrated in getting patinas that I liked, before my third(!) redo, I drug a piece to his house for the patina "prescription" and names of local patineurs who could do what I wanted. I ended up going to a foundry just across the border in Mexico to have these done. After a very long day, that made me appreciate even more where I live, I'm relatively happy with the patinas now.

Ah, off to finish packing, and I'm looking forward to the show.
