Mold

I have a few more questions would youi know where i copuld find a book or a video, which will give step by step instructions on how to make a mold, i have visited the smooth on site they have a lot of info there .... more info is better right....

I really do not know which type of mold material to use should i be using polyurethene rubber , silicone, or polysulfide ..

I would like to cast the sculpture in bronze possibly resins and then maybe concrete is there a mold that is this versatile or do i have to choose the preferred casting medium bronze or resin first then decide which molding material i am leaning towards using the silicone

My sculpture/horse is made of chavant

Thanks Fritchie

Re: Mold

I recommend a book called From Clay to Bronze, a Studio Guide, by Tuck Langland. It's pretty basic, but discusses the pros and cons of various methods, and has very good photos and illustrations.

Re: Mold; polyurethane

jwebb is right about the Tuck Langland book. It has been very popular and probably still is available for purchase. Many university or public libraries also might have a copy.

On the other issues, don’t even think about polysulfide. That’s a very old, cumbersome (and stinky!) method, and I doubt materials still are available. I would suggest polyurethane resin for your first mold. It’s easy to use, and can be used for bronze (actually wax), most resins and also concrete.

In bronze casting, you make a wax cast with the mold, change this in any way necessary, and make a new mold from the wax, which is destroyed in the cast. You can get about as many waxes as you want from the original mold, though.
