Bust of Robert Duvall as Gus MacRae.

I spent the last 5 weeks sculpting; moulding and casting the character Gus MacCrae (played by Robert Duvall) from the TV series Lonesome Dove. This was done mainly as a Christmas present for my stepdaughter, but it was also an experiment for me using new materials.
This was the first time I sculpted with Chavant NSP oil clay, moulded with Repsil E-30 silicone and cast with Crystacal R plaster. I probably should have aimed a bit lower to start off, but I'm more or less happy with the end result. I don't intend painting it, but since I have the mould, I can re-visit it and try something else later.

Nice work! I take it the hat is a separate cast and removable.

I have to say I don't watch TV much these days and can't comment on likeness, but the work itself is excellent. Congratulations!

very nice work. Regarding the eyes, from the photo I can't make out whether you used a technique to bring out the iris, pupil, by shadowing etc.

Thanks for bringing back a fond memory. You have done a fine likeness. I saw the series 25? years ago and your sculpture made me buy and rewatch the series over the Christmas break. Thanks for the inspiration!!!!
