Cincinnati Sculptor - 2005 ISC Conference
Hey Everyone,
I am new to the list. I am starting to visit the ISC site more, now that Cincinnati is the site of the 2005 ISC Conference. I am like many sculptors. I have a full time career that pays the bills and I maintain a scultpure studio that absorbs much of my spare time and not always spare money. I work in a few distinct domains and have posted some images on a photo hosting site with links below to samples of my Judaica, functional work and sculpture. I invite you all to visit Cincinnati next June for the conference. I know it will be a great experience. Re: Cincinnati Sculptor - 2005 ISC Conference
Welcome to the group, Ray. I see that you are a very "punny" guy. I've seen lots of sculpture that references women's clothing, but not much that uses men's wear in the way that you do.
Good to hear form you. JAZ |

Re: Cincinnati Sculptor - 2005 ISC Conference
Thanks for the feedback!
The ISC conference in June is still being developed. There are tons of ideas that are being filtered through the committee and reality. There will probably be some opportunities for hot work, forging, casting, hot glass, etc. There is a discussion about sculptural helium balloons. Cincinnati has a lot going on in the art community that will support having a great conference: New Cincinnati Wing of the Cincinnati Art Museum The award winning new Contemporary Art Center Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park and Arboretum neighboring Hamilton - City of Sculpture The Mockbee - with it's annual Massive exhibitions Mac's Farm and Sculpture Park A major outdoor exhibition is planned for our award winning zoo and more!!! Regarding my work, I hate to admit it but I have been welding for 30 years, but creating sculpture for the last 10. My favorite subjects are icons, objects that are common and every day but have value assigned that does not necessarily correlate to the object. I continue to explore the modern day society power symbols like neckties, suits, etc. My piece Invest in Stength is an image of what the powerful wear. In the past the powerful wore armor, today they wear Armani. I have also completed my first larger scale installations for three synagogues. One is called The Minyan. It is a memorial presented as a seating arrangment of ten symbolic Jews. (Traditional Jewish religious practice requires ten adults present for key services). It is fabricated steel plate stock with bronze powder coat. The second is a formed and fabricated sanctuary piece in silicon bronze. It is a seven branched menorah in the shape of 4 torah scrolls with key dates for the congregation on each scroll. The third is fabricated in stainless steel and is an exterior building parapet sculpture. It fits in a large triangular opening in the parapet that is 32 feet wide and over 5 feet tall. Slightly off center in the opening is a contemporary version of the Star of David. On either side of the star are triangles and truncated triangles. The congregation is Humanistic and very liberal in it's practice. So the sculpture is a representation of the star being constructed and deconstructed. Essentially showing the congregation's ongoing evaluation of ritual practices and beliefs. I have also completed a ton of functional work. Orginally designed furniture, architectural metalwork and even some really cool railings for some clients. I will post images. Ray Miller Cincinnati
