My Mother's Legacy on exhibit; 1,000 line poem on 1,000 wooden bowls
My Mother's Legacy: a 1,000 line poem on 1,000 wooden bowls
205 South Jefferson Street, Hastings Michigan Exhibition April 1 – May 10 Reception Saturday, April 19, 4 – 7 pm www.sarahhutt.com Boston Artist Sarah Hutt returns home to exhibit art tribute to her mom My Mother's Legacy, is a unique, three-dimensional poem created in tribute to the artist's mother, who lived in Hastings until her death of breast cancer when the artist was 13. The work evolved out of the artist's desire to recover a portrait of her mother - a woman she remembered as liking to read encyclopedias, loving a walk on crunchy snow and enjoying an afternoon bubble bath. Hutt recalled her mother had the habit of turning over china - to see where each particular piece was made. In response to this the artist hand-burned each of reminiscences into the bottom of simple wooden bowls so the viewer must lift each bowl and turn it over to read the inscription. The memory piece is now a 1,000 line poem inscribed on 1,000 bowls. The full installation has been shown at sites around the country and has a Web site at www.sarahhutt.com Copies of Ms Hutt's artists' book My Mother's Legacy, which contains the complete poem, will be available. PRESS IMAGES ARE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD www.mymotherslegacy.com Sarah Hutt is available for comment at info@sarahhutt.com On Saturday, April 19 Jefferson Street Gallery will host with family and friends a special Artist Reception and book signing for Sarah Hutt, from 4-7 pm.
