magnesium anode

Anyone heard of using a magnesium anode connected to a sculpture to retard corrosion?

Re: magnesium anode

If you look at old brass rudders from ships you will find a large hole in the form which used to contain a magnesium plug. I believe it's placement and function were related to corrosion, but I could be wrong. Of course the rudder usually spent it's functonal life submerged in salt water.

I thought the concept of using bronze for sculpture evolved around the metal's ability to weather well in any environment and I didn't perceive corrosion was a major concern.
