Subject: Contract resource ideas
Dear Sculpture Community, ISC Member Kingsley Baird contacted us recently for recommendations for resources for artists’ contracts, particularly when undertaking public work projects. Here are some follow-up ideas. 1) Visit the website of the New York Foundation for the Arts at www.nyfa.org Once on this very helpful website, click on Visual Artist Information Hotline. Check out their many fact sheets related to The Business of Art. You can also email your question directly to Matthew Deleget at hotline@nyfa.org or call their toll free number in the USA at 1-800-232-2789, M-F, 1-5 p.m. EST. Ask Matthew how you can access a copy of the Spring 2000 article in the series, “Ask Dr. Art,” that addresses, “Contracts with Galleries and Collectors.” Also, ask him if there are any specific fact sheets that address this topic for public work projects. While on the website, check out The Hotline Directory which provides a comprehensive alphabetical listing of contact information for all organizations, publications and programs listed in the Hotline’s many Fact Sheets. Another helpful professional at NYFA is Edith Meeks, Program Officer, Information & Research. Edith can be reached at: meeks@nyfa.org 2) Visit the website of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts at www.vlany.org You may also want to contact them at: One East 53 Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10022 or call: 212-319-2787, ext. 9. Ask if there is a VLA closer to your home base. Also inquire whether they have sample contracts they could fax or send to you. We hope that you will post your thoughts, suggestions and recommendations on the Sculpture Community so others can benefit from your personal experiences. additional resources
While I think this poll represents a great idea, I think that it is only a small part of art resources that could be of tremendous aid for all of us.
What do the rest of you think? Aside from contracts, as Carol mentioned, what other resources would you like to see made available online? |

Great sources and valuable info indeed!
Is there a nationwide/ worldwide directory of Ateliers providing services for artists (i.e. Tallix type), organized by regions and by technical capability? This could be also a "place" of meeting between artists and galleries; much like grounds for sculpture is? |
