Art Fair Booth
Hello everyone. The forum is great. I posted this in the Welcome Center but thought it would be better here.
I have purchased a Caravan "Brand" canopy tent and am ready to start hitting the art fairs in Northern California. Looking for someone out there who has experience on art fairs, in particular, which fairs in northern California cater more to art lovers (instead of kabobs, popcorn, and wine). I am thinking about the Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Saratoga, Almaden art events "fairs". Also, seeking advice on layout of the canopy. Is there a layout that works best for viewing. I was thinking about puting my large sculpture around the corners (3) and then puting a round table in the center to display my smaller works. That way the visitor would be able to walk around the tent and see the sculptures without just looking at the walls. Thanks, Jeff |

Re: Art Fair Booth
Don't have too much advice, but I know one of my ceramics profs in college made $75k a year when he did this.

Re: Art Fair Booth
There is a lot of work involved in getting that booth looking good enough for me. I'm going to get out to some fairs this and next month and see what others are doing with their booths; how are they changing them to make them less "boothy" and more personalized.
I think with sculptures, I'm going to need some pedestals to stand the smaller pieces on, maybe 4 pedestals that are tubes with tops that can fit inside one another so they take up less space. Thinking of puting some fabric on the interior walls (the white plastic does not look very professional). If anyone knows of a site that has different booth (event tent) samples, would love to hear from you! Thanks, Jeff Owen http://www.jeffowenartworks.com |

Re: Art Fair Booth
I used to do fairs in the Chicago area years ago. Sometimes I think about trying it again. I think if you hit the right fairs some people are spending more money at them than they used to. Professionalism in presentation is getting a lot better than it use to be. I've seen people bring in a carpet and roll it out and if you have access to electricity you might want some nice clip on spots to snap things up. Good luck.
