Photoes of 1000 statues

Dear Artists
I am making 1000 statues of worldfamous personalities on stone for GIFT TO NATION( my country, Nepal). I am going to show all those photoes one by one regularly with their short biography.
Today I am posting the photo of Leonardo De Vinci. I think it is not neccessary to discribe about Vinci for all the artists. so I pasted only his photo.
Thank

Manjul,

You said, 'gift to nation'. Can you explain in more detail what do you mean by this.

Are your portraint busts life-size ? And what stone are they carved from ?

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Dear sirs
Thanks for seeing my art and your advices. First of all I am going to discribe My 1000 statues. I have an Iron Dream -giving 1000 statues of worldfamous presonalities to my Nation NEPAL. I am working regularly for it. I have finist 50 statues of those in the last one year. I think it will take my 15 years. Sometimes many circumstances disturbe me and it even goes to late, But I am taking them as a power to success. Last January, I exhibited these statues. All people are inspiering me knowing my aim, they are helping me as their possibilities.
I think the Nation also watching it. Some Univrsities and other Forums are asking me to help strongly for stablishing those statues Museum belonging them but I think it is not better than Natoin. I am only 25 years old, I can finish it in my life anyhow but they want to take advantage by it, I don't like. I am going to give these 50 statues in this running year and it will going on every year to Nation.
My potraites are carved on local stone. The stones are not good in quality although I have to make on it because the qualited stones are not avilable here and they are expensive too. My poverty can not servive it.
My potraits are (18"x15") in size. They are in half sized.
Oh, Ofcourse, I used many Threads to post my pictures because I was confused which Thread is for it.
I am posting my another potrate of Madam Currie. She is a great scientist, born in Poland, Discovered Radium.
Your sugesstions always make me pleasure and stronger.
Thank
Manjul Miteri

The attached photos will not enlarge when I click on them. It would be nice to see the carvings closer in order to examine the detail.

Thx,

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Manjul,
Thank you for sharing. It is great for you to take the time to post photos of your work, no matter the size. Hopefully your nation of Nepal will recognize your gift and do what is correct for your work and Nepal. I see your enterprise as a great learning tool for generations to come not only for the art work but also why you choose the people that you do portraits of.

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Manjul,

Did you say earlier, to help with your future carvings, you are looking for good photos/pictures of other famous personalities?

From the WWW of the Internet, there are two good Search Engines to find these photos/pictures, as long as you know of the names of these people and type them in.

One Search Engine is Fickr. The other is Google Images. Try them.

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Manjul,

Your goal and enthusiasm are very inspiring!

I recently came across the website of a guy in San Francisco that runs his own foundation for the arts. He apparently earns his living as a waiter and provides small grants to artists, which he funds with the proceeds of one nights tips per month (up to $300 per project). It occurred to me that his mission and yours may be compatible.

Here is the web link in case you are interested:

Best of luck with your endeavor.

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

I really like this last portrait of Ravindra. I don't know what he looks like in real life but your portrait has found a nice expression in his eyes. Some good hair modeling in his beard too. Very nice. It seems that with each portrait you are getting better and better. I do think that by the time you are done with the 1000 portraits, you will have done something that will etch you a spot in history too. Good for you!

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Dear Tamara and all the Artists,
Thank you, I am making their statues as my possibility. Ravindra Nath Tagore was a great Indian writer. He was fond to roaming the reverside, forest and watching the blue sky leaving his class, study. He loved the natural beauty. I tried to make his portrait as his photo and his charactor, my neiboures liked it is near to real photo. I always try to the best. Today I am posting the portrait of Socrates, A great Greek philosopher who was killed for his against view for god and religion. He was sacrified for the truth. Ok, It will bee keeping on. your concern is my inspiration, your encouragement is my power.

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

I agree I like the portrait of Ravindra Tagore best.

Also, Manjul, I notice the lighting of most of your photos can be improved. Move your lighting source around and look at the shadows. Find a good position before taking the photos. Usually it is above the head and only slightly in front.

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Dear Merlion and the Artists,
Ofcourse, the manegement of light on my portraits is poor. I have stored them in a small, dark and dirty room because I am not able to manege a especial hall for them so I use to take their photose in a simple mode. But I hope they will get suficient hall for them at last. Ok, today I am posting here a different typy of photo. That is the photo of myself not the photo of portrait. That's all. your concern is my inspiration, your encouragement is my power.

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Nice picture Manjul. You are so young and taking on such a life commitment; I respect that and cheer you on.

To see your sculpt closer and with better lighting is what we want because you've captured our interest and we want to see more. If you upload your pictures into photobucket.com and then paste the url into the text,(what you write), then we should be able to see a much bigger picture. Even if the lighting of the picture isn't that good, we'll see more because it's bigger.

Keep sharing, as it's exciting to see who you do next. What about Mother Therese?

Re: Photoes of 1000 statues

Instead of taking the photos inside your room, try taking them outdoor with sunlight from above. Of couse place your carvings in front of a plane wall so the background is plane and does not distract.

Dear Manjul:

It looks like you keep getting better as you go. the Orville Wright and the Ravindra Nath Tagore are the most lifelike so far. Not only are you chiiping away stone, you are also chipping away previous limitations. You are living the dream, and Nepal is blessed to have the fruit of your efforts.
Keep up the good work!
